Hundreds of Gaza Freedom Marchers held a candle light vigil to see in the New Year at Tahrir Square in Cairo. I exchanged new year's greetings with a Gaza Palestinian family that lives in Cairo who came to attend. As ever the police are with us and shooed away Egyptians who tried to join us or came over to speak with Marchers. But the mood is calm and celebratory.

The good thing about slow Cairo traffic is that Gaza Freedom Marchers have lots of time to give their message to people in passing vehicles. Some passengers in this bus smiled and waved as those inside the police line called out for a free Palestine and slogans such as "the Egyptian people are with us" and "one Arab people."
Gaza Freedom Marchers still in Tahrir Sq. corralled by riot police. Very calm. All of a sudden lots of plainclothes milling around inside barricade. People continue to hold up signs that can be seem from the street. Message remains: free Gaza, end the siege.
